Emerging Artists

Opening night of Eastwoods Fringe Festival, October 2015

In 2015 Marley and Sydney were sitting in their 11th grade theatre class at Eastwood Collegiate Institute learning about different styles of theatre and one thing jumped out at them… Minimalism. A few minutes of searching, some guidance by their teacher, and a little bit of creativity- and “Phillip Glass buys a loaf of bread” was ready to come to life.

A comedic, heart wrenching 1 act play filled with rhythm, imagination, movement, love, and bread throwing. Yes, actual bread. The show played for the weekend in ECI’s Fringe Festival. Getting noticed by the organizers of the Gala and reprised for a final performance, as well as Awarding them with Best Directors.

This experience changed the course of both of their art careers as they were given the opportunity to step into director roles, and create something without limitations.

Marley and Sydney’s experience at Eastwood Collegiate Institute, and the fantastic arts teachers and education inspired the Emerging Artist program here at The Innovative Productions.

This program is currently in pre-production, and more information will be available soon about apprenticeships, mentoring, festivals, and more creative outlets targeted for emerging and new artists.
